The Cyborg at the End of the Universe
The Cyborg at the End of the Universe
Emerson Daub is a fifth grader who has a healthy interest in cyborgs, super heroes, and video games. His father Richard is a writer and former journalist who likes to watch baseball, eat cheeseburgers, and listen to old guy rock & roll music.
While sitting down to write with pen and paper or in front of a keyboard isn't exactly Emerson's favorite activity, he has a wonderful imagination and loves to make up characters and stories. So, once again he and his father have combined their talents to produce The Cyborg at the End of the Universe, the second book in The Adventures of HyperKid series (the first of which is titled HyperKid v BullBorg), and the third book overall they have written together (the other being an illustrated children's book titled Spaulding and Zoom about their family's pet cats).
Over a period of two weeks during the summer of 2016, the father-and-son writing team set aside some time each day to hash out the story. Emerson began where the first HyperKid book ended with Alien-Bot wanting to destroy the universe and how it would be up to HyperKid and BullBorg to stop him. When Richard asked why Alien-Bot wanted to destroy the universe, Emerson explained that Alien-Bot believed that the rest of the universe was responsible for destroying his beloved home planet of Alania, which at one time was the home of a great civilization of Bots but had now fallen on hard times, and that the only way to save it was to destroy the rest of the universe and use its resources to restore it to its former greatness.
Emerson also wanted to include a new super hero in the book and came up with the idea of a beautiful, charismatic girl from New York City named Stella Bella SuperStar. This new character continues the theme that began with the first HyperKid book, that those who are different in superficial ways may have more meaningful things in common, and that in order to save the world it will be absolutely necessary for people from all walks of life to work together to fight the real enemies of bullying, intolerance, and prejudice that are the root causes of so many major problems in contemporary global society.

The Adventures of HyperKid Authors
Emerson Daub is a fourth grade student who loves to play with toys and has a healthy interest in cyborgs and super heroes. Having already written a children's book with his father Richard about their pet cats titled Spaulding and Zoom, Emerson expressed interest in writing a new book that combined two of his favorite interests. In writing this new book, Emerson, who has a very creative mind and active imagination, sat down with his father and in one sitting made up the story that would become The Adventures of HyperKid: HyperKid v BullBorg. Richard, who at one time had been a reporter but admittedly has very limited knowledge of cyborgs and modern super heroes, took extremely diligent notes and asked many detailed questions about the characters and the story. After this marathon session, Richard typed up the notes and gave them a voice. Over the following months, the father and son duo worked together to refine the prose into a tight but entertaining first person narrative. They hope the finished work will be enjoyed by all who read it and that it will serve as inspiration for everyone to rise above their personal obstacles and not let them hinder the pursuit of their goals and dreams.
